This entry is part of a map titled: "Seattle to Thailand and Back".
I should start by telling you I'm very very cranky this morning. = Yesterday I made our first remote post from the boat via sailmail and = I know I screwed up the position and it's somewhere near nigeria. I = put the latitude and longitude coordinates on two separate lines in = the email so it misinterpreted it. I know it's near Nigeria because = Geojoey emails be back confirming the coordinates as it interpreted = them and also tells me the country I'm in or nearest to. I guess the reason I'm really mad is because I wrote the software so I = should know how to use it. The upside is that I am now a user of my = software so when one of our users is at sea and posts remotely and = screws up the coordinates, I now know exactly how frustrated they're = going to be. I need to get this coordinate thing very very right. Anyway, on to more interesting topics.... We spent the night last night in Ao Nang bay which is a small town = with lots of tourist shops and restaurants. It was nice to get back on = land after being on the boat for 48 hours straight. I don't think I've = mentioned this, but Tao (the boat we're on) is a 38 ft Leopard cat. I = believe the boat was originally designed for charter work, so it's = very user friendly. We have 6 people on board at the moment. Mom, Dad, = my little sister, her boyfriend Derek, and Kerry and I. There are 3 = double cabins, so she's at capacity right now, but we all get on = really well so no worries about being cramped or anything. There is = actually plenty of space. Ao Nang was pretty cool. We hit a nice pub playing some great blues = and ran through the cocktail menu a few times and got seriously drunk. = Then we hit the tourist stores and bought a bunch of fake designer = sunglasses and went to an Irish pub and had bangers and mash. ...as = you do in Thailand. The number of expats here is quite amazing. On Kamala Beach near = Patong in Phuket over 2000 Swedes were killed when the Tsunami came = through. There are little pockets of expats everywhere. We are currently en route to Ko Mai Phai (Bamboo Island) where the = diving is supposed to be great and I'm hoping to catch a few more fish = there. We're motoring with the foresail up to give the engines a bit = of a boost. The sea is fairly flat - about a 1 meter swell running. When I get to an internet connection I'll fix that messed up post = that's making my route look like I traveled via Nigeria. Comments No comments yet - be the first! | |||||||||||||||||
